I've been trying to paint my cars using photoshop but every time I save and try to use it ingame it says "using a 3D skin without mipmaps this is invalid" Crying or Very sad

anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Maybe even knowing what mipmaps are would help.

Hello Wink

First you have to download the "dds plugin" (easy to find with google) in order to be able to save your detail.dds and diffuse.dds in... dds file.
Then... i should make long explanation but i risk to forget to say many things and i think the Tutorial of carpark are good enough Wink

Try these links, i think one is in french and the other one in english. But both can help if there is pictures.

Good luck and if you have a particular question, don't hesitate Wink

Mipmaps are part of the DXT5 texture compression format.

In effect the main high res skin texture contains a few lower resolution versions of the same thing. So when a car moves away into the distance, it progressively uses a lower quality skin texture, saving graphics resources.

Make sure you save as DXT5, not 3 or 1, and read the photoshop dds plug-in instructions very carefully.

For other people who don't use Photoshop (for the sake of sanity, and speed, use something...ANYTHING, simpler, is my own personal advice) you should search the interweb for a little application called DXTBMP, which will save DXT5 compressed textures without any problem. It's free, small, and simple to use, for file conversion to dds it works without headache. Very Happy

Another excellent program for anything .dds is Paint.NET.
