probably. Although it never struggled too much with TMU, so I'm hoping it'll be fine if I turn the down a bit. |

The way i read the statement from nadeo, is that, "the patch will be available for download, april 16th", thus, in my perspective of that comment, It will be a downloadable patch, not a forced one.
If so, tmn may run on it`s own without the patch being applied, i downloaded tmn and saved the setup.exe on my external drive, thus, pre-patch game,
All the info coming about the patch is mixed up, some say forced, others don`t, as nadeo says there is over 4 million registered user`s, i don`t think it would be in their interest`s to force a patch, i think there would be too many people online at one time for them to do it.

it won't be a forced download, and its not a patch.
Trackmania Forever is a totally new game as far as TMN original is concerned. existing trackmania nations users will still have to download the full game, trackmania united users will be updated.
obviously trackmania united owners will not have to download TMNF at all, and can just use TMUF.
in a sense, the update will be forced, as i doubt many peeps will play an old version of a game when a new version is available for free! _________________

Depends on how good the new version is...
Yes or No question... will the current TMN work after TMNF comes out? |

Steve I suppose it will still work in Solo mode, but there will be no online functionality since Nadeo will certainly close the master server. _________________

Indeed.
But you know, there will only be more things, no less. I don't see where is the problem.
Nadeo has been working hard, night and days, to offer us a better game and to let TMU and TMN player play together by improving the whole stuff, and it is totally free. You won't have to spend a penny on it. So please. before saying you don't like it, try it. |

Lol, no but i'm just seeing the facts.
On one side, some people who are working hard to improve things as much as they can (for free). On the other one, the players saying "i won't like it" "they won't force me to update" "i prefered how it was before" ...
For usual madlaps players, there is only one thing whoch could change : there could be new tracks with new blocs. Something else ? absolutely not. The community don't have to be divided, we will still play on this good old server (as much as DaMadMan is able to allow us to do of course, thank you).
The only difference will be for the TMU players. They will be able to play TMU and come back to MadLaps GBR when they want to, without turning off a game to run another one. That's all folks !
So, let's race, let's update and enjoy ! |

Even not.
When you'll launch the game, it will make an update, and then you play, as usual.
Maybe the main interface will change to be like the TMU one, i really don't know, but that's all. |

The onus is on you to install it or not (automatic version update always need user input too), but Nadeo are old masters at this. Historically (if the previous TMS island and bay demos are any indicator, Nadeo take mere minutes to make your mind up for you! ) as soon as the patch is available the user log on server changes, and the old un-patched game may no longer connect when you press "Internet". Ok keep TMN by all means, but if it can't log in, it can't connect, and it can't play, so you're stuck. You aren't forced to install the Forever patch, but if you want to play online, what choice do you have? This is only if they stick to their previous patch formula. So it is your choice...but if you've no other option, the choice is forced onto you.
For those who wish to keep the old TMN, you'll have to download a utility such as Hamachi. This will allow you to host a virtual 16 player LAN, let other people connect to the available user slots, then you run the game, and instead of "Internet" you choose "LAN". Runs very simply and effectively. But players will rapidly dry up as they patch the old game.
Wether or not it's a patch, or a full game is irrelevant. It's complicated by what appears changed in what game. To TMU it's more patch like, as most of it's content is unaltered, as only the game kernel and TMO environments are changed. To TMN this may seem like the largest change, if everything from the game menus, the painter, the Stadium, the textures, and the track sections are all changed (who knows?), but it's still the same old game with some new fancy clothes. So it's big, and glossy, but it's still a patch of an old game....an expansion pack if you prefer! _________________ http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ http://folding.stanford.edu/ |

Thats not what i wanted to hear... i didnt like the TMU stadium much, and it was the best environment in the game.
But, as pepper says, i shall keep an open mind until i see it for the first time sometime in the summer... |

You know what I think we should do...I think we should wait until Forever comes out, and THEN try to compare them! How's that sound? |
