Its a direct hit and we're riding it out no flooding at my house although the water isn't even half as high as its going to get yet and weve got power (obviously because I'm on the computer.) Were experiencing hurricane force winds .cables been going on and off. None of you guys are feeling it but its not going to be good. Here are some pictures.
Remember these are from when the hurricane was 200 miles off-land
My house all boarded up the 2 days befor the storm
our generator, pool, and any outside furniture that would stay on the ground
all along the main road to get to our house all the buildings you see are buisnesses and the flooding will get much worse
later that day...
pardon the blurry image the wind was blowing the camera around
The ditch behind my house where all the 2-8 feet of flood waters will come from.
threatening clouds
not sure if you can see it but there is a toppled tree in the background
road sign tilted over by the wind
even more threatening clouds
Local restaurant under water
not sure what this is I think its the same street from earlier still not as flooded as it'll get driving down it when it was that high was scary because the water was over the wheels.
probably wont be able to update anytime soon because power outage is gauraunted
***update***
turtle that washed up in our yard
***update***
lots of debree from trees everywhere and its immpossible to open the front door because the wind is blowing it shut that shows how strong the wind is.
***update***
Power going off and on around 1.3 million people without power
***update***
power is staying on steady and Steve (the turtle) is swimming in our pool
***update***
water starting to creep up towards are house we couldn't take the camera outside until it stopped raining for about 10 minutes its dark in the pictures though so you cant see far some shots me wading in the water
*all these are taken from right in front of my house
*i am wearing pants
***update***
its the calm befor the storm
***update***
were in the eye but once were out its gonna be even worse than earlier no sleep tonight but steves still having fun
***update***
neighbors trimmed their bushes some of which had thorns and left them where they'd blow right into our yard I ended up steping on the thorny ones
***update***
weathermen says tomorrow afternoon tornado watch
*brand new avatar to express my feelings towards ike
***update***
we're out of the eye and ike is angry and wet blowing the debree I spent five mnutes sweeping up
***update***
#1 I am infact alive
#2 the next and final part
The Aftermath:
actualy mad the worst was at about 2 to 7 am (my time)
power went out at about 5:30 and came back on about 1 hour ago
my house was unscathed but the neighbors and other people around had from severe to no damage
here are some pictures of where the police would allow us to go they had deep flooded areas blocked
A pine tree that uprooted and fell on a house
flooding on our street (water lowered from night befor)
the ditch I showed you earlier
fallen and snapped trees
signs that have fallen or moved
*billboard
*power poles falling over
2 guys boating down the street
on the bright side no school until further notice (my school is completely under water)
The cops have the city its in completely blocked off.
lots of trees snapped you can see it in the pictures lots of fences fell over billboards knocked down power lines down would have more pictures but camera battery died
we were extremely lucky if the storm had been 4-5 miles west of where it landed I would need a new house because mine would have water above the second story of our houses
But wait theres more...
more is yet to come the salt in the flood water from the storm surge will kill all lawns and trees that soaked up the water
even more...
there are two more systems they are watching and hurricane season is still in its peak _________________ Someday I shall rule the world!!!

I guess the worst is over now as it's been hours since you posted.
It's weird building a community and then realising that most world events will effect someone in it. I believe mmmbat is also in the ike zone and our thoughts are with you.
keep us informed. |

Those new pics take me right there, Aaron. The absence of other people give a truly post-apocalypse flavour. I'm just glad you're still walking and talking about it, thanks for taking the time to keep us informed.
Looking at the age of some of those trees, that must be the worst weather in thirty or forty years?
Also guys let us not forget Houston resident MMMBat, 3/4 of his City is without power, a week-long curfew is in force there and airports are closed for the near future. Hang in there, Pat _________________
