The Mad Laps Vent regulars will by now have noticed that something strange is going on at my end. I can hear everybody fine, but when I try to reply they just hear crackling sounds. The speaker indicator next to my name turns green, albeit after a slight delay compared to usual, so my voice is being picked up. In Setup things are exactly as I left them once I got it working, DirectSound ticked everywhere, Sensitivity slightly lower than the average number that comes up in the monitor when I say something, no changes at all. The only thing I can see that's changed is that clicking on the Recording (Input) or Playback (Output) buttons brings up an error message telling me that Vent is "Unable to open the system sound control panel". Another line in the error window adds...
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndvol32.exe" /r rc = 2
Can anyone provide a solution please?

try the ventrilo support forums.. they are very comprehensive.
Also, if you click test in setup you can hear what we should hear...
Unticking direct sound may also have an effect.. |

reinstall vent?
err have you tried recording your mic and then playing back the sound to see if its cracking there?

Chjeese it's not just crackling we hear, fragments of voice can be heard. Sounds like the condenser in your mic has gone west. Like someone suggested above you need to test it independently by attempting to record a vocal sample and replaying it for comparison.

The plot thickens. My wired and wireless xbox 360 headsets work nicely on the 360, no problems whatsoever. However, I went into the control panel with the wired one connected and did a hardware test in the sounds and audio devices panel under the voice tab. On the playback test, I tried talking into the mic and got a load of crackling and that kind of stuff as Mid, Steve etc. reported. I tried the wireless one and got the same result. I'll try reinstalling the driver for my wireless 360 receiver at some point and see if that helps, because that's the only thing I can see that can be causing the problem.
