1 star day = 1 vote by 1 player for 1 day.
If 1095 people are voting you you, you could get 3 star years every earth day. I'm sure some of the top players, server hosters and track builders must have many tens of people voting for them, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone had 20 years' worth. I am voting for certain server owners who shall remain nameless ..... |

Found it funny that you ask:-
Virus: Are you voting for me?
Steve: Yes
Virus: Glad your returning the favour.
I was laughing so much, i knew at that time only 1 person was voting for me But dont worry. Also, 6 is the maximum i think |

wow i've never seen that stats page before. Quite interesting:
Login : Tom-B
Victories : 20 616
Defeats : 4 549
Draws : 4 061
Ratio (win/loss) : 4.53
how does it work out wins and losses? Wins can't possibly be 1sts can they? |

That's funny Tom, I had a peak at my stats and it says I have 14,000+ victories! I'll be very surprised if I've won anywhere near 100 races. Not sure where they get their stats from. |

At the large number, im guessing its the number of CP in the lead, or losing.
Win/loss is just Wins / Loses
I think, but 20k/4k is 5, not 4.5 so the draws might be something to do with it
Also, it has the stardays on that site and when you login to the trackmania site. |

Draws have nothing to do with it: count it out; 20 616 / 4 549 = 4,53
The wins and defeats mean this: when a race is over, it looks how many people you've beaten and of how many you lost. So if out of 10 people you end 3rd, you get 2 losses and 7 wins. |

... so if you want a good win ratio, just play against a load of noobs ... if you want a ranking, play against (and beat) good racers. The two seem to be in conflict with each other, no? I do think that's how it's calculated, btw ... not disagreeing, but this measure says nothing about your skill.
I've always wondered, though ... does the ranking score always go up? I don;t think it can go down, can it? Which means that to get a high ranking you have to have been playing for longer? Or does it only take the previous few months' results into account, like a tennis ranking? |

Um, I would add to this post (and these are topics I find mildly vexing) that when I 'joined' TM there were over 1.5 million registered, and now it is at least 400,000 less total users, so there must be some sort of drop for inactivity/ cutoff for past points (a year perhaps? no clue).
I have also had the experience where I didn't race for a couple days and still advanced 10-15 spots on the over-all ladder. The only explanation I have is that there is some sort of mechanism dropping players down the ladder or out right deleting them.
Although as I re-read this post, I wonder if I have been on line at the cutoff for a days totals. Anyone know what time of day the TMN server adds the totals? Midnight GMT seems logical. _________________ I'm more of a vehicular gymnasticist than driver. |

Players do actually have their accounts removed if they are deemed beyond "rules of good natured engagement". I remember a few players on Sunrise who were warned over ill thought usernames, avatars, and car skins...some were removed when discovered in action by admins! There was a thread warning of these added to the updated official forum.
However, I doubt 400,00 players would have their accounts cancelled for a breach of use, this isn't Blizzard here. So you're probably right there Grinchster, as hundreds of thousands of accounts are completely dormant, and have probably had no point movement since they were first activated. These probably represent players who install the game (TMN comes bundled with many graphics cards), don't like it, then remove it after a couple of races. As Nadeo update the game, during development when the ladder is taken down and tested with new versions, they'll likely flush out the chaffe dormant accounts.
Now onto the stars. There's so much mis-informtion over stars it's hard to makes sense of it all now. We old TMS players are actually to blame, as we were the first people to be lumbered with the bloody things. Initially we used to joke about players votes to put people off (who'd vote for a noob who wanted a star? ) but then they began begging for them on the official forum (AvrilFan was possibly most guilty, and was gleefully hated!). So things only got worse... _________________ http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ http://folding.stanford.edu/ |
