Hey,
I was wondering, what do I need to authenticate a TM:N account?
Would the original Trackmania be enough, and would I be able to authenticate and change everything on my main account?
Thanks
P.S. Please vote for my ego |

Hehe, had to be the second option medi
Seriously, you can authenticate your TMN with any cd key from the TM series. I didnt think you could with Power Up, but cheese can, so i guess you can use that key aswell.
When you authenticate your account, you can change skins and have custom avatars and generally mess everything up |

Just remember that you can only validate one account per game key. If His Majesty's already validated his with a TMO (or whatever exact version it is) online key, you'll probably need your own copy. As I've said somewhere else, you might as well get TMU, it's not that much more expensive any more and you'll soon be able to play Nations through it.
I hope your PC's up to running TM with a validated account, I validated mine when this PC was still on its original spec (see PC spec comparison thread) and it wasn't able to manage the P2P. I lost interest in Nations and resorted to TMO for my TM kicks until I got some more RAM. I don't think you'll have a problem, chances are if you're playing TM at this level your PC's pretty good anyway. _________________

I think it's €25,- more expensive here in the Netherlands. Not that much, but seeing as I wasn't planning on playing it anyway that's €25,- too much

You are saying it takes a better system to play Trackmania:nations on a validated account? (Not sure if I got that right). |

one difference i can think of is the increased p2p traffic as your skins etc will be shared, maybe a 5% CPU hit. Even that doesn't last forever as your files become distributed. _________________

Yeah, CRJ's got it right, it's just the files going out to other players that slows things down. It's not going to make a massive difference; remember, my PC wasn't even worthy of running Nations back then. _________________

Tell that to the Dutch pancake vendors who have descended on Manchester's Albert, Lincoln and St Annes Squares (and most other cities) ... They know how to start Christmas early! |

It seems to me that C*******s comes sooner every year. There are places in Shrewsbury that seem to sell red and white stuff with a terrifying laugh for at least half of the twelve months in each year. _________________

Hey guys
Which one should I buy:
5,99: "Trackmania"
19,99: "Trackmania United"
7,99: "Sunrise Extreme & Trackmania Speed Up (add-on)"
Or doesn't matter which one? All I'm interested in is the code to authenticate, I'll keep on playing Nations |

According to the answers to my question Trackmania original is enough.
At Dynabite you can order it over internet by the way for €5,-, maybe less with a 'klantenkaart'.
EDIT:
The link

Nothing wrong with your connection as the gp skins work for you. However, this may be because its downloading from someone else, or is stored locally by some means, and its just showing for you, and not downloading it from you.
And i know it uses the locators, but you have to download the locator from the player so p2p has to be enabled.
To check it, i would find an empty server, get someone whos account works fine, give them a simple, all one colour skin, see if it downloads to you (to check the files ok). If it does, get them to send the skin to you, and you try it on a normal server, (without the other person using the same skin because it will download from them, and this will be completely pointless) and see it if works when only your using it (to see if your p2p is working). |

As Mad has said, if all you want is the online code from one of them, you'll be fine getting the very first TM.
If you're actually looking to play whatever you buy, get United as it's got everything made so far in the TM series, will let you see what TMF will give Nations players and will eventually let you play Nations Forever through it. Skins and tracks from previous games work fine on the whole.
The add-on for Sunrise by the way is "eXtreme". Speed-Up was an expansion for the first TM that was never released on its own and was eventually integrated into the Power-Up! update. _________________
