Hi all,
Was just wondering why you guys hadn't ever thought of building a clan? After all, we have a lot of competitive regulars that play the servers regularly and I'm sure a lot would sign up. Don't worry Moldo I know I'm in Pelicans, I'm just thinking out loud here.
MAD ViRuS
MAD DaMadMan
MAD Steve
Just a thought, plus a really nice car skin made by DaCheese for each member.
Like I say just thinking aloud _________________

This idea must occur to everyone who plays Mad Online Gaming.
The short answer is: Clans aren't as much fun as this _________________

To be honest Midden, clans aren't that bad. You could also run it alongside the current GP set up. Plus there's the whole Clan ranking thing on Trackmania. With indivual driver rankings inside the team too. Was it P!ggy who set up the Pelican system Moldo? _________________

I did these skins for my local fellow TrackManiacs:
It took quite a while but I'd happily go through the process again to create a Mad team skin. I'm reluctant however to use anything other than the Green Missile myself (I'm a bit funny about things like that). If we were to start a clan I wouldn't be the best for this job really, there are much better skinners here like Mad, Pep etc. _________________

Sure, I'll give it a go some time. I'm not great at doing the kind of translucent Detail files that Mad's done for the GP skins, although I probably could do if need be; after all, it's just a case of increasing the layer transparency. I'll PM you my email addy.
You say your skin doesn't show. How do you mean? To start with, make sure you have a validated account, and try to keep the zip file as small as possible (says he with at least four sound files and a details file in with his diffuse and icon ). _________________

Which system do you mean exactly Dutchy?
For this topic: I don't like the idea of a Mad Clan, cause I like being in this 'community' but Pelicans is a nice clan and I think I'd go for Pelicans
And Dutchy, I've just sent you my replay of Japan |

My current thinking on the clan possibility is that it's a nice idea, but not neccessarily a good one. _________________

We had this exact same discussion on the old servalot forums... I think my response then was something like this:
I see Mad Laps as more of a loose collection of like minded racers/gamers, and if you start to make it an organised clan you'll lose alot of that informality that is part of what makes the community so much fun. I don't think we need a clan, as we all know who the regular members of the community are, and if you made a clan then you'd be forcing those players currently in a clan to choose between the 2...
And my opinion hasn't changed |

Yes, i remember that discussion and i totally agree with Tred and Midden opinions.
The MadLaps community is a free place for fun and enjoyment in the Trackmania universe.
And it is very good as it is, nothing should change to make it better.
I'm very happy to be part of this thing, but if it was a team, a clan, i would not be in... |

Ok my view on it and the ethos behind this server has always been not to create a clan as tred and pepper have pointed out. Creating a clan creates barriers and keeps people out of what I like to think is an open to all experience. By not having a clan people like tred, shadow, danski, etc who are all clan members for other teams are welcome to race, participate and be part of something that otherwise they would be unable to do.What I find great is the way that certain clan members spend more time on mad laps than with their clan
Other suggestions for making madlaps better however are always welcome as I would like to create more buzz around the place. |

i believe when had it serval times and then a few more
on the subject of clans i think it would be nice to be though of as part of the mad clan however more of an open clan .... basically no different to now. You turn up your very welcomed
and also i think is that in between gp series we should have once a month an invite gp against a clan, with the top few of mad laps v top few of this over clan race 1 . then a 2nd race with everyone else.
They mostly seem to race over short distances / TA so this should be a nice change for them and place mad laps within notice of all in GBR as it should be |

I'm not into wearing tags anymore, i wouldn't fancy being in a Mad Team v Some Clan. I'm into server raids though, I just don't know any clans ripe for a pwning. Suggestions? Let's get it on _________________

I think if everyone had a MAD in front of their name it would scare off newcomers ot the server. Here's the kind of conversation I could picture...
RandomNewGuy: Hi everyone!
MAD fashazzle: hi
MAD Dingus: hi there
MAD StEvE: oMg Crashed aGAIN!""£"
RandomNewGuy: I'm new and I'm terrible help me!
MAD T-Rex: mmm fresh meat
MAD Cycopath: TIME TO EAT
MAD sTeVe: ***** barriers
RandomNewGuy: umm what?
MAD fashazzle: Ahh you can't beat the taste of roasted flesh
**RandomNewGuy gets scared and leaves**
However it looks far less intimidating with the MAD taken away! _________________ It's not the winning, its the taking apart |

Why am i the random guy crashing into walls?? You make it sound like i crash into walls all the time...
Anyway, as long as no tags are involved, im fine with almost anything
In other games, tags seem to generate a barrier between people. You could go into a server, with tags on, and if you say Hi, or something to someone, the majority of the time, you get ignored. However, if you play without tags, like in BF2 when i played without tags for about a week, people talk to you, and even invite you onto their TS or Vent servers.
Then they find out your in a team, just not wearing tags, and you get kicked, but still... |

Nice responses guys, i was just thinking aloud as to why and I can completely understand why you haven't. The idea about mid-week GP sounds cool though. _________________

Another reason why I wouldn't want ML to be a clan is because I hate Time Attack. Rounds is fine, but I'm useless at that too. Plus I like the laid back approach to racing we've got here.
Giving some clans a complete pwning once a month sounds like fun though. I do believe we had an invite from Pedi to take on DFA; how about following that one up? _________________
