I've been skulking in the shadows listening to some of the opinions about the gp's and respawning. I'm starting to feel that finishing a GP is not what it used to be. It used to be an achievement getting to the finish and on some tracks a finish meant much pointage. The problem I see with respawning is that it doesn't punish drivers enough for inconsistent driving, a faster driver when faced with tricky cuts on a track they can't respawn on might not try it for fear of losing points thus levelling the playing field slightly.
We could of course re-jig the points system slightly so a non finish doesn't mean no points but a reduced point score.

I never experienced the GP's without respawning (as I started playing just before Forever came out), but I can imagine it would be alot more of a test, and would level the field out a bit. The faster you drive the more likely you are to fly off the track as they say, which would give the slower drivers more hope (better than the handiloop system I think). It would require trackbuilders to take more care when designing tracks, in terms of the ramps to get back on the track too.
I'm all for it |

Well some of our newer cohorts don't know what its like to go off on lap 2 of a 25 lap race and not be able to restart (unlike you and me). Now they might find out the levels of concentration and commitment required to stay on and win a race.
Of course when you do go off you can do commentaries like I used to do which were designed to put CRJ off _________________

well, first of all I'd like to point out that banning respawns is possible (BiPolar Bears did it).
but secondly, I really don't think that it would level the playing field in the slightest. I reckon the faster people are those most likely to not respawn in the first place, it would be those lower down the field who would suffer the most.
As most people might know already, i'm not a fan of the handicaps. but im willing to give it a shot to see if it can work out, but throwing the no respawns into the mix is just going to mess everything up even more.
If you really want to have more of a challenge and sense of achievement, lose the handicap. Imagine a person who is accustomed to getting 10th-15th all of a sudden having a stunning run and ending up top 5 or even top 3. Isn't that far better than ending up ahead of bboy and being confused about whether you deserved it or not?
I understand this seems biased coming from me, as I have the max handicap along with bboy and angel, but seriously, im confused as to which position I should be in. _________________

Not entirely true Swat the most consistent finished of races prior to respawns was Mid not Bboy or even yourself, true you won more races than he did but it does show that being the fastest isn't also the most consistent.
I wouldn't be looking to introduce it this season as we're doing the handicaps this time but it might be an idea for next season.
Just thought we'd see what folks opinions are. _________________

fair enough
my opinion - it will be hard to police if you don't do what BiPolar did (ban respawning through the game, if u press enter it will retire u)
but if you do what BiPolar did, then it can be quite unreliable, at the start of the race it might retire you for no reason whatsoever.
but if you can find a method thats easy and reliable, by all means lets go for it _________________

he he the season isn't over yet and spanky opened the can of worms again nice one!
I don't think it's a leveller myself I just think it adds spice and rewards consistency. The respawns make it softer but is that a good thing? I can argue both ways.... |

I think it adds more excitement. I remember Dutchy won a GP once and that kind of thing will NEVER happen with respawns. The faster drivers still hold the advantage but it adds more uncertainty which is fun! _________________ It's not the winning, its the taking apart |

I would not be happy with the re-spawns being taken out, due to my appalling driving i would not have finished a single GP, if it is decided to take out the re-spawns i do hope we get a lot more time to learn the tracks _________________
