Since I'm a man of the world and well versed in diplomacy and negotiation I've been asked to spread that knowledge across the internet (yes it does count towards my community service order).
If you have any questions you need answered or would like a bit of advice then feel free to post on this thread and I'll see what I can do to help you along.
It's free by the way.
And no Dan I probably won't know of a good cream to stop that itching you mentioned on vent. _________________

My work is forcing me to learn a 'skill' at work today that is not part of my job, and something that I didn't want to do and also refused to do. But apparently I 'need' to do it.
Basically they are phone training me in the office where I work, to take sales and query calls. I work on the web team which deals with non-phone related issues and we work in a seperate team to the sales guys. I've told my boss i don't want to be phone trained and if i wanted to i would have gotten a job doing it, but they say i need to do it to help out the sales guys because they can't afford to take on new staff at the moment due to all the credit crunch malarkey.
I can take calls no problem, I've worked in a couple of call centres but its not a matter of whether I can do it or not, its a matter of forcing someone to do something at work that you dont want to do and will make me unhappier here at work.
Dunno what to do.
EDIT: I guess thats more of an advice thing than a question, but please...spanky...let me here your wise opinion on this matter. |

I think this needs to have a forum of its own, with one thread per question ... |

StevieM: You should check your job description but more importantly check for a clause that states you will be given any and all tasks your line manager feels appropriate. If that appears your kind of screwed, if they don't appear tell them your job description needs to change and you want an increase in salary for increased responsibility and a change to your duties. You'll probably get sacked so I suggest grin and bear it and keep your job when so many are losing theirs.
JawZ: Move house, closer to the exchange and don't believe the hype about Virgin broadband. Or a cheaper option is to check what settings you can in relation to the flow of data while playing the game. Mad probably be better person to ask about this.
HotSwat: Time is what you make of it.
Sosteve: Yup
Bunsen: You might be right old son. _________________

Two options you can go on the game or speak to Belial and see if he is still hiring he did mention on vent he was looking to hire people with IT skills.

found out the other day that being a alcoholic is actually classed as a illness and the goverment will give you money to fund that illness.
how sickening is that all these p heads are partying whilst we are all at work, and we are funding it
i heard things like 80 pound per week and one women who lives near my sister 120 to feed the poor womans habit.
same boat as you dan signed on over xmas then waited 10 days that they said, missus rang them to get passed from every operator to be told the following day they had lost the paperwork.
annoying thing is i sat there with them and filled it in
luckily i done the hard part for them and got a job just annoying that there are bums that claim everything and get away with it
sorry rant over but know what your going through dan
p.s not an excuse to become a p head
come to think about it there are loads on laps that could be claiming |

I'm painting a room and I'm wondering if you can offer any tips on painting behind a radiator. The people who owned the house before us clearly didn't know either because I can see a line where their paintjob ends and the previous one starts. |

proper way
close of both the valves bleed it and take it of the wall.
lazy way
failing that just pour some paint on the wall and let it run down |

radiator...
method1: use mini rollers to get behind the rad. these are easily purchased and work well where there is space.
method2: turn off the valves get some clothes and things under the rad, undo the nuts quick using TWO SPANNERS... one to stop the rad valve from twisting off the pipe and the other to undo the nut. pop the fittings out of the rad ends and lift the rad clean off the wall. At the same time deftly stick a thumb over each pipe and run to the bathroom as long as you don't undo the air valves the water will run quite slowly :O If the rad is real heavy... which any decent sized rad is when full of water get help. Four thumbs are better than two. Radiator water is often filthy dirty and stains real bad. so it depends upon how precious you are about your carpets and how desperate you are to paint. note rad valves often leak slightly so wrap in a cloth. |
